Happy New Year!

I hope that the Christmas season was an enjoyable one for you and your family and I hope that you're entering, this New Year with lots of expectation for what God can do in your life. As believers in Christ, we always have our best days ahead of us!

I just want to thank all of you for showing your support of the youth fundraiser for World Vision's 30 Hour Famine. Every day, about 25,000 children will die due to preventable causes such as hunger, disease, and poverty - and you helped to bring relief and healing to those in need. Every dollar will go towards providing enough food and medical care for a child in need for one day: that's $180 for a child for six months, and $365 for a child for a whole year! At the time this article is being written, we have counted $4820.01 to date in checks, cash, and online donations to World Vision!!! That kind of financial support can provide enough food and care for 13 children for a whole year! Thank you for your generosity!

During the 30 Hour Famine, we had a guest speaker from Ocean County Hunger Relief come and share with the youth group about hunger in our area locally and how we can respond to needs right here in our own area. It was surprising to find out that Ocean County, NJ has the second highest number of foreclosures in the state, and that relief organizations in Ocean County like the Salvation Army had to turn families away for food this holiday season for lack of supply.

One of my greatest desires for the youth group during the 30 Hour Famine is that it wouldn't simply be a great cause and a great event for a moment in time, but that going without food for 30 hours going hours and raising money for children in need would change their perspective on how they look at the world and their place within it. My desire is that we would see ourselves throughout the course of our lives as people who have been blessed to be a blessing.

So, as Jesus taught us to pray, "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven," may we make that the prayer of our hearts and be open to how God wants to answer to that prayer through our lives today!

I am reminded of a time that's coming when Jesus will reward His people for ministering to Him when He was in need. We read further in Matthew 25:

"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something, to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'"

"The King, will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'"

May your faith continue to find itself at work in the way you reach out to others in need in this New Year!
