“To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.”
― C.S. Lewis

And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments." Luke 23:34

Many people this at this time of year are trying their best to express love to those around them. The do all kinds of typically romantic things like giving gifts, watching romantic comedies together, going to fancy dinners and making mix tapes (hello 1980s!) But one thing is essential to prove that you love someone.

You can't have love without forgiveness. Go ahead and try to do so. It's not possible, the two are forever linked. Think of the people you've had to forgive most in your life and chances are it's someone that's close to you. Real love is expressed through the sacrifice that forgiveness is. For someone longing for it, forgiveness is a great gift, paying an unpayable debt.

Forgiveness is costly and difficult. It may involve swallowing some pride or not being reimbursed for losses. But for all the parties involved, liberating. It may not come instantly but we must work to achieve it. Khaled Hosseini, author of Kite Runner wrote, “I wondered if that was how forgiveness budded; not with the fanfare of epiphany, but with pain gathering its things, packing up, and slipping away unannounced in the middle of the night.”  When Christ died to forgive us of our sins He also gathered up all the pain and sin in the world upon Himself. All the pain and sin you've ever committed or will commit was loaded up on Jesus. Yet because of His love and desire to show us love chose to forgive. In this season of love, let us remember to demonstrate the most difficult yet most powerful way.

In Christ,
P. Hector
